Our last weekend in Germany was jammed packed with travel and reuniting with friends. We ventured to Esslingen, Nuremberg, and returned to the “real” Rothenburg.
Esslingen was a town that was recommended by the locals. The town had tons of character and the best medieval Christmas market in my opinion. The medieval market had no electricity. Everything was gas or man powered. It was like a Renaissance festival mixed with Christmas Market. The market had a Merry Go Round that was operated by people running on what resembled a hamster wheel and all the merchandise was handmade. We also had the pleasure of meeting up with a family friend, Barbara, who happened to be in Germany on vacation.
The next day we got up really early and started the 2-hour drive to Nuremberg. We were on a tight schedule to meet up with our wedding photography, Molly, who also just so happen to be on vacation in Germany. Of course we were late! It’s a big challenge to be on time with a baby. Once there, we walked through the Christmas market to get to a castle. We swapped photography service with Molly and my family since we are both photographers. All-in-all it was a fun day!
Our last weekend adventure was our return to the “real” Rothenburg. Earlier, I mentioned, we went to the wrong Rothenburg, ended up finding the real one, but and we ran out of time to see everything. Well, we decided to go back. We were able to walk the town wall and we bought our daughter a Steiff bear (the company that created the Teddy Bear) that she loves and we have named “Rothenbear.”
The flight home was long and our daughter was very tired and beginning to struggle with jet lag, which is way worse for a baby than an adult. We loved Germany though and would definitely return in the future.
